Playmates 1990 TMNT Movie Classic Figures

Last year at Comic-Con, Playmates impressed the crowd with a slide showcasing an upcoming line of classic figures based on the first TMNT movie. Now at Toy Fair we're getting a better look at all four Turtles in this line.

Unfortunately, the mass production version of these figures seem to have lost a lot of the awe that the prototype shown in the early pictures elicited. These figures are in the same 6" scale as the classic cartoon Turtles from Playmates and are expected to hit shelves in the Fall.

Note to Playmates: Movie Mike never had chucks with chains.

You can get more photos of these figures over at ToyArk.com.

There is a lot more news coming out of Toy Fair, but my current schedule is probably only going to let me update you with one piece a day. If you haven't already hunted down everything else, just hang tight and you can look forward to Turtle tie bits all week!

A Real Look at the 2014 TMNT Movie Toys

And here it is - finally, our first real picture of the 2014 "Ninja Turtles" movie toys! Here we see Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo. This picture is via Stoer Magazine at the Nuremberg Toy Fair. These are apparently the 12" scale figures.

An Almost Look at "Ninja Turtles" Movie Action Figures

Happy New Year! 2014 has arrived, and it's looking to be a big year for the TMNT. The biggest event, of course, will be the release of the new live action movie, currently scheduled for August 8 (still my birthday). Although we have yet to be shown what the Turtles will look like in their CGI forms, toys for the movie have been in development for awhile. And now is beginning the season of Toy Fair season.

At one such Toy Fair in Russia, some lucky individuals were able to get a glimpse at these new figures. Unfortunately, pictures were not allowed. However, one person put together a fairly detailed report of what he saw.

Read the full report.

Amongst the figures on display were the four Turtles, Splinter, April, Shredder, and a Foot Soldier.

The Turtles are noted to each have different physiques and different clothing. The designs are described as being "traditional," whatever that might mean.

Splinter has more of a "Fu Manchu" vibe going on.

April is dressed like we saw Megan Fox dressed in the many set pictures taken during filming last summer. However, the figure apparently doesn't look much like her.

Shredder is described has having an abundance of pointy edges poking out of him everywhere.

The Foot Soldiers mimic the guys in drab that were also seen on set.

Again, you'll want to read the full report to get the best feel. More toy shows will be taking place in the next couple of months, including Toy Fair in New York. If we don't see the action figures ourselves sooner, we definitely will then.

Like all other TMNT action figures ever, these are being made by Playmates Toys.

SDCC 2013: Playmates Unproduced Concept Sketches

As part of their panel at Comic-Con this year, Playmates presented some slides of concept sketches for toys that never made it into production. Enjoy this glimpse of what might have been!

SDCC 2013: Playmates Bebop and Rocksteady Classics Figures

Second to the 1990 movie classics figures, the most-exciting reveal Playmates had at their panel were these Bebop and Rocksteady figures, which will also be part of the "Classics" line. However, they did let us know that Splinter and Shredder would eventually also be added to this series.

SDCC 2013: Playmates 1990 TMNT Movie Classics Figures

Playmates' Comic-Con panel didn't have much excitement to share. However, the best thing they showed was truly impressive. As part of their larger, more-detailed "Classics" line, Playmates will next year be releasing figures based on the Turtles as we saw them in the 1990. These are the Turtles as realized by Jim Henson's Creature Shop. Despite advancements in movie effects in the 20+ years since, these Turtles for many are still the definitive movie Turtles.

Unfortunately, all they had for us was this one slide. And despite the text at the bottom saying it was on display at the Diamond booth, it wasn't. However, Toy News International has the hi-res versions of the pictures shown in the slide.

Two are below; check out the rest.

First Look at 2013 TMNT Toys from Playmates

Toy News International has posted a sneak peek of some images of new TMNT action figures and toys we can expect to see for sale next year from Playmates Toys.

The new assortment features the four Turtles in some sort of stupid outfits, Baxter Stockman, Snakeweed, some new vehicles, a pizza box that unfolds to reveal a playset, deluxe "Flinger" Turtles, and a few other things.

Frankly, I find myself extremely disappointed with what we see here. Playmates actually went to the trouble of making new Turtles sculpts that more closely reflect the designs of the series, and they still covered them in stupid costumes. Really, Playmates? Have all the complaints about this tired and outdated strategy of yours really fallen on deaf ears? How far are we from the return of Music Turtles?

The new sculpts are actually quite adorable. I would love to buy and display them! BUT I REFUSE TO BUY TURTLES IN STUPID THEME COSTUMES. These new Turtles should just have their traditional gear. Those figures would be awesome.

Ugh. I might buy the baby turtles, but otherwise I'll be spending my money next year actually learning karate.
