LOST ANGELES: 35 Days With Kevin Eastman

As previously reported, Kevin Eastman and Mark Bode are RIGHT NOW in the midst of painting a gigantic wall mural of the cover of TMNT Vol. 1 #1 on the side of the Meltdown Comics building in Los Angeles, CA.

This mural painting is a kickoff for a month-long event centering around the art of TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman, called LOST ANGELES: 35 Days With Kevin Eastman.

The mayhem starts November 30, with a weekend dedicated to Kevin's TMNT work, and each of the next four upcoming weekends having their own theme. For a complete schedule of events, visit the Melting Comics website.

Live Kevin Eastman & Mark Bode Art Event in LA November 17-19.

TMNT Vol. 1 #1 Cover Art
Mark Bode and Kevin Eastman will be at Meltdown Comics in LA November 17-19 as part of a massive art project. November 17-18, the two will be painting a gigantic mural on the outside wall of Meltdown Comics that will resemble the cover of TMNT Vol. 1 #1. As it's one of Mark's specialties, the mural will be done in a graffiti style with spray paint. Then, on November 19, both artists will be back at the store to sign autographs.

TMNT (1990) Movie Screening in Cleveland, OH (Plus a Sandwich!)

The Capitol Theater in Cleveland, OH, will be hosting a midnight screening of the original 1990 TMNT movie this coming Saturday night, August 20, 2011. You can buy advance tickets to the screening here.

The screening is part of the Melt Bar & Grilled Late Shift series, which combines classic movies with grilled sandwiches. The poster to the left was specially designed for this event and promotes the TMNT sandwich that will be available for only two nights. According to the poster, the sandwich features "real cheese pizza rolls deep friend 'til extra crispy and atomic hot, rich homemade marinara, green ooze basil pesto cream cheese, and provolone and romano cheese." You can also add crisp pepperoni for $1. (Whoa, heart attack!)

So if you're in Cleveland, this sounds like a fun opportunity to see the original TMNT movie. And if you try the sandwich, at least it will be a delicious last meal! ;)

Thanks to I Crave Pizza No More on The Technodrome for the heads-up!

Nickelodeon TMNT "Mutation in Progress" Comic-Con Event

Check in desk.
The Comic-Con "Mutation in Progress" event was held on Friday at Basic in downtown San Diego. All of the giant glass plate windows of the place were adorned with double-sided decals that created giant images of the Turtles on both the outside of the building and on the inside. Three sessions (all with the same content) were held at 4pm, 5pm, and 6pm, with pizza and beverages provided. I attended the 6pm show and arrived to find many familiar faces and friends hanging out outside the premises. Also hanging out were some of the ninja street team I had spotted earlier in the Gaslamp. They were handing out ribbon bandanas that had the new TMNT logo on them. None of the information revealed was particularly new if you've been paying attention (especially here on Ninja Pizza!), but I'm going to do a straight run-down of all of it. (Hold tight. This is gonna get a bit long.)

Free TMNT Movie Screening in Ohio

The Dover Ballroom in Dover, OH will be hosting a free pizza party and screening of the original TMNT film on December 5! It doesn't get much better than Turtles and pizza, except for when it's free Turtles and pizza, so if you're in the area, go check it out!

Host of the show Jared has also created some TMNT-inspired prints that he has for sale in his Etsy shop. Proceeds from sales of the prints will go toward buying more pizza for the party - Sounds like a good cause to me!

"Turtles Forever" Theatrical Screenings CANCELED

Less than a week after the event appeared on the Fathom Events Web site, the "Turtles Forever" one-night-only screenings have all been canceled.

The following message was posted on TMNT25.com today:

Unfortunately, 4Kids Entertainment and Mirage Studios were unable to reach an agreement with Fathom Entertainment to present the “Turtles Forever” special event.
We will keep our Turtles fan base informed as we work on a new distribution plan for this exciting project.
As always, we thank you for your support.
-4Kids Entertainment & Mirage Studios

While the event was still listed on the Fathom Events site this morning, it has since been revised and now simply states, "Due to unforseen circumstances this event will not be shown in theatres."

The TMNT25.com message, which refers to being unable to reach an agreement with Fathom Entertainment, is quite curious, as one usually assumes those kinds of details are already in place before the event gets listed on the site.

Further details about why the event was canceled are scarce, although a 4Kids employee made this slightly cryptic comment on the Technodrome fan forum:

On the bright side - without going into details - if there is any possibility of seeing this anywhere else this year this is the way it has to be.

Lets hope 4Kids and Mirage have a kickass backup plan in mind, because missing out on the national exposure even a one-night-only event would give to the project for anything less than awesome would not only be a disappointment for fans, but a huge missed opportunity for the franchise as a whole.

"Turtles Forever" to Screen at MIPCOM Film Festival in Cannes, France

C21Media.net is reporting that "Turtles Forever," the animated movie from 4Kids Entertainment where the different multi-verses of TMNT history team-up to battle the One True Shredder, will screen at the MIPCOM film festival in Cannes, France. No further details are currently available, although the festival runs October 5-9, 2009.

As "Turtles Forever" currently has no distribution deal in place, it's likely that the producers are hoping to land one as a result of participating in the festival.

If you missed it, you can catch the entire audio of the live screening of "Turtles Forever" at San Diego Comic-Con here.

Jake Black Fundraiser This Saturday in Provo, UT

By now you know that our buddy Jake Black is fighting the fight and winning the battle against the big Cancer monster (you can read the latest updates on Jake's health over on his blog/Web site). Those medical bills are still piling up, and this time it's his hometown comic shop, teamed with other local comic creators, that's stepping up to the plate for Jake's cause.

Dragon's Keep comic shop is holding a 2-for-1 party this Saturday, September 12, that celebrates the store's 22nd anniversary while also raising funds for Jake. There are a slew of activities and guests planning to attend, so if you live anywhere near the shop's Provo, Utah location, you'll definitely want to be there on Saturday. Activities are from 10am-5pm.

Guests of special interest for TMNT fans are Quinn Johnson, who wrote Tales of the TMNT #31, and Travis Walton, who colored some of the comics that appeared in the TMNT Comics magazine over in the UK (see a sample page here).

Jake is also planning on attending, but whether or not he's able to will depend on if he has any adverse reactions to his chemo treatment scheduled for Thursday (tomorrow).

Here's a spiffy flyer with more information (although Spider-Man decided to be a ninja).
